2008 Southern dharma events kick off
A quick
report from on-the-ground reporter of the start of the 2008 Dharma season. A few
lucky Dharma fans were able to create the karma to have the opportunity to attend
the Southern Dharma Celebration in London with the Venerable Gen-la Khyenrab.
Kick off was 7.30 p.m. on 7th March at Red Lion Square. We arrived with about
half an hour spare before the start. The gentle buzz of a new season, the opportunity
of the seasoned fans to meet, greet and catch up with the battles we have faced
with our self cherishing, and for the new people perhaps even there first time
at a large Dharma event you could see their trepidation, but also their joy at
having started on this most wonderful journey. There was a great turn out from
Jampel and was great to see so many of the beautiful Canterbury Sangha Jewels.
The start was as fantastic as always, with magical teachings on Lamrim, Lojong,
an in-depth teaching on the 14 verses of the Prayer of the Stages of the Path
to Enlightenment (you know the one that starts “the path begins with strong reliance
on my Kind Teacher source of all good….”) and all this topped off with an empowerment
of White Tara. With these teachings and this wisdom being passed to us, all living
beings have no choice but to find the jewelled isle. A great performance by GK
(“the goalkeeper – a safe pair of hands”) and backed by Gen Chönden. Thank you
our most wonderful spiritual guide. John Dowsey March 2008
